OK, this new Girl Scout cookie really sounds delicious - OregonLive

Girl Scout cookie season is months away, but a press release just appeared in my inbox with some undeniably good news -- the kids will be hawking a new cookie this year and ... it sounds really good.

Full disclosure: I am probably a registered Girl Scout right now, as well as a former Girl Scout camp lifeguard and counselor and a former troop leader. Also, I think the Girl Scouts need to immediately stop using palm oil linked to deforestation and child labor in cookie production.

And, I almost exclusively go in for Tagalongs and Samoas.

But this new cookie, the “Adventureful” has piqued my interest.

The press release describes it as “an indulgent brownie-inspired cookie with caramel-flavored crème and a hint of sea salt.”

It sounds like something we could use right now, and not after Jan. 7, 2022, when cookie season officially begins for the Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington.

But I guess we just have to wait. Might as well have something to look forward to!

Cookie sales are a huge moneymaker for the Girl Scouts at every level, from sending individual kids to camp, to troops on trips, to funding the organization at the service unit, council and national levels.

The annual event, which frequently depends on in-person booth events, took a major hit during the COVID pandemic.

This year, along with the delicious-sounding new cookie, Girl Scouts of the United States of America also announced a slate of new “Cookie Business” badges that will help kids learn more about selling online, something that will probably continue to be a big part of cookie sales, as the pandemic shows no signs of calling it quits by October.

So maybe this cookie season will go well for Girl Scouts. Especially if they finally deal with their palm oil problem.
